Capcom's Street Fighter V is arriving next month, and while it will ship with some single-player content, the bulk of the experience will be coming in June as a free update.
At launch players will be able to play the specific character stories for each of the game's fighters, with each story featuring artwork from longtime Capcom artist Bengus. These stories will explore the history of each character and their relationships with the other fighters, and will likely be an introduction and a conclusion with a series of fights sprinkled in-between. Long has been the tradition in fighting games, and Street Fighter V won't likely be any different in that department.
Come June, however, a new "cinematic" story mode will be added to the game that will explain the events that transpired between Street Fighter III and IV. A trailer for the mode points towards this being Street Fighter's answer to the story modes of other recent fighting games like Injustice: Gods Among Us and Mortal Kombat X, two fighting games that both feature cinematic story modes upwards of five hours in length. The update will be free for all players.
In addition to the announcement of the story mode, Capcom is also giving out more details about the rest of their DLC plans. Street Fighter V's in-game store, where players can buy new characters and costumes with real money or in-game currency, won't be arriving until March alongside the first DLC. Capcom says players who complete the game's cinematic story mode will have enough in-game currency to purchase one of the game's numerous upcoming DLC characters.
One final beta test for the game will go live from Jan. 30-31. Street Fighter V will arrive in full on Feb. 16, 2016 for PC and PlayStation 4. Sony recently unveiled a number of Street Fighter V PS4 console bundles for players to choose from as well. You can check those out here.
