Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's single-player reveal earlier this year highlighted a number of new gameplay features that will turn the traditional Call of Duty experience on its head, such as the exosuit. Today, Activision and developer Sledgehammer Games officially unveiled with a new trailer how the futuristic technology will bring big changes to Call of Duty's multiplayer, and it's about to get crazy.
First and foremost is the inclusion of the exosuit, which opens up new movement and combat capabilities to the player. Every player can double jump with help from their exosuit, as well as dash sideways to get out of harm's way and powerslide into combat. Because of these new capabilities, maps will be more vertical than ever before and the pace looks to be even faster than that of previous titles.
In addition to allowing for more movement options, exosuits can also be equipped with various abilities that can be the difference between life and death in combat. Players can use their suit to hover in the air for a short period of time, go invisible, block incoming projectiles, and boost player health and speed. Abilities drain battery from your exosuit, so they can only be used for a short period of time. Each exosuit also comes equipped with a wrist-mounted launcher for easier and more accurate firing of equipment like grenades.
Customization also looks to be more in-depth than ever before. Advanced Warfare will reinvent the "Pick 10" system from Call of Duty: Black Ops II that allowed players much needed flexibility in how they determined their character loadouts. That system is returning with the "Pick 13" system, which allows you to mix and match perks, scorestreaks, attachments and more to find the perfect mix for your play style.
A new feature called Supply Crates will also make its debut in Advanced Warfare. After the end of a match, players may be rewarded with a crate of various items and loot like new weapons; character customization items; and new in-game, one time use items called reinforcements. While standard rank progression still unlocks new weapons as seen in older Call of Duty titles, each weapon has 10 variations with slightly different stats that can be earned from Supply Crates.
Multiplayer scorestreaks are making a comeback, factoring in your entire match performance as opposed to only number of kills, and are now even more customizable with players being able to augment their streaks or even teaming up with another teammate to use them. For example, you can upgrade a remote turret to a remote rocket turret for additional score, making the streak harder to obtain but also more powerful. One new streak featured put one player in control of a heavily armed drone, while another player highlighted enemy targets. Of course, new maps and modes will be making their way to the game as well, with some levels featuring environmental hazards.
Activision concluded the reveal with the news that fans who pre-order the game will be able to play it a full day early with what they are calling the "Day Zero" edition of Advanced Warfare. This version will also include to exclusive weapons and double XP for a limited time, at no additional cost. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be released on Nov. 4 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
