Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will feature the most detailed graphics of any entry in the military shooter franchise, thanks to a focus on the latest consoles, according to Advanced Warfare's developer, Sledgehammer Games.
Michael Condrey, the co-founder of Sledgehammer Games, spoke to the Official Xbox Magazine and revealed that Advanced Warfare would be handled differently from last year's Ghosts due to Sledgehammer's complete focus on Xbox One and PlayStation Four. For Ghosts, developer Infinity Ward had to divert resources to working on both current and next-gen versions.
"We really have to thank Activision, not just for the extra year, but for the singular focus," said Condrey. "Three years to get to next gen. The current gen game never got in the way of our ambitions, it never stopped us from being super-creative about taking full advantage of the next-gen hardware. It decoupled us from worrying about having to do a split-platform year, like titles had to last year. So that was really refreshing, and gave us some freedom to really go after this one."
The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version of Advanced Warfare are being made by another developer, High Moon Studios. High Moon had previously made several Transformers games for publisher Activision, as well as another licensed game, focused on Marvel Comics' wise-cracking mercenary Deadpool.
Condrey also referred to the fact that Sledgehammer Games had three years to design and code Advanced Warfare, compared to previous Call of Duty titles which were developed in only two years. The extra year for development is part of Activision's new strategy to have three different developers with three-year schedules to support the best-selling FPS franchise.
The other two developers supporting Call of Duty are Infinity Ward, the original creators of the Call of Duty series and the developers of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games, and Treyarch, the developers of the Call of Duty: Black Ops games. Previously, Sledgehammer Games assisted Infinity Ward in the development of 2011's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be released November 4, 2014 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms.
