Even if you haven't watched "Game of Thrones," you'd have to be living under a rock to not know that the HBO series is pretty bleak. So when confronted with basically the cheeriest sitcom of the 1990s, how would Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark on "Game of Thrones," react?
Williams guest starred in an installment of The Fine Bros.' "Teens React" series on YouTube, where teens watched the incomparable "Saved by the Bell." And if you too have never seen "Saved by the Bell," which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, then you are truly missing out.
Williams was one of several teens in the video who had never seen the sitcom that unleashed Zack Morris, A.C. Slater, Kelly Kapowski and Screech on the world. The 17-year-old seemed half-fascinated, half-mortified by the show. "Oh no! It's so embarrassing. No," Williams said in the video.
During the video, the teens got a taste of all of the good-natured high school hijinx that the "Saved by the Bell" gang got into, complete with the awesome early 1990s graphics, big hair and crop tops. Although Williams, like most of the teens in the video, seemed to think the fashion in the show was pretty atrocious, she dressed as if she could fit right in at Bayside High School with her oversized baseball jersey, backwards cap and lots and lots of bracelets. Don't these crazy kids know that fashion gets recycled?
However, all in all, Williams' reaction to the show was pretty delightful as this young starlet really has a brilliant personality that shines even when she's not acting. When forced to choose between Zack and Slater, Williams chose the blond teen heartthrob Zack. She also thought it was "horrible" that Jessie took caffeine pills in one very special episode of the series. As for when Kelly was awarded Homecoming Queen for showing her school spirit with maroon colored face, Williams kept it real. "Everyone is horrible, and no one would vote her if she had a maroon face. I'm sorry, Kelly, but your dreams are crushed in the real world," Williams said.
Ouch. Williams might just be as hardened as her "Game of Thrones" character.
In the end, Williams didn't think "Saved by the Bell" would be popular with teens today, mostly because of the color scheme. All of those patterns and pastels were pretty crazy. Now if only we could see Williams react to "The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story" premiering on Lifetime Sept. 1, our lives would truly be complete.
