A new report claims Samsung is working on a new high-end phablet. The smartphone is believed to be the Galaxy A9 Pro, which is expected to be a more powerful and premium version of the recently introduced Galaxy A9.
Samsung added a new series to its smartphone lineup in December 2014, when it launched the Galaxy A series, which introduced a new design that offered a smartphone constructed out of premium materials like metal and glass at an affordable price. The Galaxy Alpha was one variant and ended up being an AT&T exclusive and featured a design very reminiscent of Apple's iPhone 5/5s series, complete with chamfered edges and aluminum frame. It was essentially the beginning of Samsung's shift of competing with Apple not only in specs, but design.
Samsung recently launched its 2016 Galaxy A series and added the Galaxy A9 to the lineup, which includes an updated premium metal and glass build, large 6-inch Full HD display and huge 4,000 mAh battery. The phablet appears to be off to a good start, as a new report claims Samsung is planning on launching a higher-end variant in the form of the Galaxy A9 Pro.
SamMobile reported that Samsung is working on a smartphone with the model number SM-A9100 (the Galaxy A9's model number is SM-A9000) and is currently testing firmware for the phablet, which could be among Samsung's first smartphones to ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
The site also claims that Galaxy A9 Pro may or may not be the final name of the phablet when it launches, but since it is believed to be a higher-end 'Pro' version of the Galaxy A9, it's very likely that the device would ship with more impressive specs. Samsung has already been producing Quad HD displays for the Galaxy S6 series and will be using the same high-resolution displays in the Galaxy S7 series.
The Galaxy A9 Pro could pack in the company's largest Quad HD display to date. This would also require a larger battery than the A9's already massive 4,000 mAh power source.
There's no word on a possible release date but we'll keep you up to date on any new Galaxy A9 Pro news as it becomes available.
