'Destiny 2' Will Not Launch September 2016: Report

Rumors about a sequel to the popular shooter Destiny has been circulating on the Internet for the past few months. While Bungie has yet to confirm whether it is working on a new game, the possibility of its existence is enough to create a considerable buzz among legions of fans.

However, a recent article posted on the website Kotaku said that the release date of Destiny's supposed second installment was moved to 2017 from September 2016, which was earlier reported.

The post cited individuals familiar with Bungie's plans for the game, adding that the game studio is currently in a state of constant flux. Some of the team leaders involved in the Destiny 2 development are still evaluating how they should approach the coming month.

Neither Bungie nor Destiny's publisher, Activision, has provided any official statement regarding the rumors, and it is likely that both companies will remain focused on the original game for now.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare developer High Moon Studios has been working with Bungie since May 2015, possibly to help create the Destiny's next installment.

The two studios have had a complicated development history last year while working on the original Destiny game, its game expansions and its possible sequel.

It was reported that the original story for the game was discarded almost entirely, resulting in the retooled and repackaged version that fans see today. Some of these scrapped concepts later became part of the Taken King expansion.

Developers originally planned to add a public space on Mars in Destiny but the idea did not make the final cut. It was later given to High Moon Studios to have it included in the unannounced sequel.

Destiny fans have been clamoring for new content for the game for months, with many starting to feel dissatisfied with the game. Since the launch of the Taken King expansion in September, Bungie has yet to release new raids, strikes, or areas of the game that fans can explore.

While in-game events such as the Festival of the Lost in October and the Sparrow Racing League in December offered players some new things to try, they were insubstantial and short-lived in comparison to other stuff that Destiny can offer its hardcore fans.
