Although Bungie said they will not reveal any big news about Destiny until Thursday, players who logged in to the game between Jan. 7 and 10 found a special gift: a Rising Light Emblem which many think is a hint at bigger things to come for the anticipated big event in February.
The Rising Light Emblem features the silhouette of Mercury against a rising red sun. Many are speculating that this is a big clue that the next Destiny event, called Days of The Dawning will take place on Mercury, which many fans of the game have been waiting for a long time.
According to reports, Mercury is a very big deal for players because it happens to be where the Osiris Temple is located. Originally, Osiris was meant to be an in-game mentor to players, however, those plans were scrapped along with a multitude of other overhauls the game went through prior to launch.
Instead, players were only able to go to Mercury when the Crucible event in House of Wolves DLC was released in May 2015 allowed them to take part in the Trials of Osiris.
Although Mercury has taken a significantly more minor role than the original drafts Destiny had planned, players have been hopeful that the planet would finally take the spotlight in a possible sequel to the game.
However, Bungie has announced that instead of “giant, monolithic expansions” to Destiny, instead they intend to shift to a more “event-based model.”
“Days of The Dawning” seems to be the first of those big events planned for 2016. While leaks of the event were already popping up online in December, the Rising Light Emblem is the first real hint that The Dawning may have something to do with the closest planet to the sun.
“The first of these early 2016 experiences will be on a scale close to Festival of the Lost. The second will be far larger than anything you’ve seen since the release of The Taken King. There’s also another significant update to the world and sandbox planned in this same window,” said Bungie Community Manager, Eric “Urk” Osborne.
