Exploding Kittens' Bursts Its Way To Top Of The App Store In Just One Day

The Exploding Kittens application version of the popular card game just blasted its way into the top spot and became the number one paid application in the Apple App Store after only a day from its launch. This is another record to add to Elan Lee, Shane Small and Matthew Inman who created the game after becoming Kickstarter's most funded game and quickly raising the funds they needed to turn the game into a reality.

The game, of course, has no malicious intent and kittens explode just by doing their usual kitty things and causing mayhem because of it. Players can also avoid the explosion by diverting the kitten's attention through belly rubs, catnip sandwiches and laser pointers, if they draw one. All-in-all, it's an interesting strategy game made for fun and not because the three creators have anything against kittens.

"It is a highly-strategic, kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette," the site describes.

It's interesting to know why this card game is just so explosive that, despite the fact that players can't even play in solo mode, there are still many who downloaded it.

"If you've ever played the Exploding Kittens card game, you'd know that it's very much a party game... [it's] a multiplayer game you play with people who are actually sitting near you," the site reminded. That's why the developers used a combination of WiFi and Bluetooth in order to simulate playing using the physical deck of cards. But, they also asked for patience because the technology is new so there may still be bugs that need to be fixed.

In a way, in spite of everyone sitting around a table with their phones whipped out and doing their own business, there's still a sense of socialization among friends because they would be playing the same game.

There are two other things that may be the reason why so many people downloaded the app in one day. First is that all in-app purchases are free for a limited time -a little over two days left as of writing. The second is that there are available avatars with voices in the app. Who wouldn't want to hear Party Bear explain with his own voice why he's wearing a party hat?

Exploding Kittens is currently available in the App Store and the Android version is currently being developed.
