Asus launched its ZenFone 2 smartphones last year, and it appears the company is already cooking up some of its ZenFone 3 phones.
Two purported low-end ZenFone 3 Android variants have made an appearance on GFXBench. Fans should not get their hopes up, however, as rumor has it that these could still come out in May or June of this year.
These two unofficial Asus smartphones, with model numbers Asus Z010DD and Asus Z012D, are believed to be closer to the midrange budget smartphones instead of being the beefed up versions of the 4 GB ZenFone 2 variant that wowed loyal fans last year.
The Asus Z010DD model rocks a 5.9-inch touchscreen display with 1,280 x 720 resolution. Under its hood, this phone is powered by Qualcomm's octa-core Snapdragon 615 system-on-a-chip and Adreno 405 GPU. In terms of its camera, this device boasts a 12-megapixel rear snapper and a 5-megapixel front shooter, both of which have the capacity to capture full HD video. Additionally, the phone offers an unusual 2.8 GB of RAM and 24 GB of flash storage.
The Asus Z012D model, on the other hand, features a higher resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 but with a smaller screen size of 5.5 inches. It's equipped with an Adreno 510 GPU and an undefined hexa core Snapdragon chipset. The second model is also rumored to come with 2.8 GB of RAM and 24 GB of internal storage, but no info on the camera was provided yet.
What makes both of these handsets sweet is they both tout Google's Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Of course, we're not sure yet if these phones are going to be included in the ZenFone 3 line Asus is expected to release within the year. A possibility exists, though, that these are the phone's lower-end variants.
We'll know the complete details of these two rumored Asus devices probably a few months from now. We'll be sure to keep you updated on any ZenFone 3 news when they become available.
In December, Asus launched its ZenFone Zoom that packs a camera reportedly better than the iPhone 6s Plus. The smartphone comes with a 13-megapixel, 10-element lens plus 3X optical zoom.
"In terms of image quality, the ZenFone Zoom can not only rival single-lens reflex (SLR) camera, judging from all the features it as well as outshine iPhone 6s Plus," said Jonney Shih, Asus chairman.
