A 40-second video clip that has been making the rounds online is said to feature the first look at Apple's upcoming 4-inch iPhone, which is expected to be unveiled as early as the current quarter.
The video, however, does not answer a question that has been one of the most asked regarding the rumored device. What will it be named?
Possible names that have surfaced for the 4-inch iPhone include iPhone 5e, iPhone 6c and iPhone 7c.
If the video clip shows the real thing, it would be killing the rumor that the design of the 4-inch iPhone will be copied from the iPhone 5c, except that it will be featuring a metal body. In the video, the smartphone is shown to look like a smaller version of the latest flagship Apple smartphone, the iPhone 6s.
The device in the video also appears to have a metal body and a Touch ID fingerprint reader, though not much else can be ascertained from the video that was allegedly recorded within Foxconn, which is one of Apple's major suppliers.
Sources have previously claimed that the 4-inch iPhone will be powered by Apple's A9 processor with 2 GB of RAM, but more recent reports have pegged the device to feature the lower specifications of an A8 processor and 1 GB of RAM instead.
The device is also expected to support NFC for the Apple Pay mobile payment system, and will be available in similar options for colors as the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
The original iPhone featured a relatively small 3.5-inch display, before the screen size was increased to 4 inches with the release of the iPhone 5 in 2012. This would be the model of the iPhone that the rumored upcoming device will be sharing its size with, as the iPhone 6 saw the screen bumped up to 4.7 inches and the iPhone 6 Plus screen was even bigger at 5.5 inches.
The 4-inch iPhone is expected to be unveiled by Apple in March in a company event, alongside the Apple Watch 2. The second model of Apple's wearable device is expected to pack more sensors, communication capabilities even without a direct link to an iPhone, and a built-in camera.
