If Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump wins in the 2016 race to the White House, he is going to compel Apple into manufacturing its products in the United States, he says.
In his speech at the Liberty University on Monday, Trump said that he is going to pass a legislation that would force the Cupertino-based company to build its devices in the country.
Initially, he said he would impose a 35 percent import tax on companies producing their products overseas. He then focused his attention on Apple.
He believes that this move would somehow reclaim the jobs lost to other countries down the road.
"We have such amazing people in this country: smart, sharp, energetic, they're amazing," he said. "I was saying make America great again, and I actually think we can say now, and I really believe this, we're gonna get things coming."
He added the U.S. is going to get the company to "start building their damn computers and things in this country," rather than manufacturing their products in other countries.
However, as Gizmodo says, while an "all-American Apple sure sounds nice" as it would definitely generate jobs, Trump's promise rests on nothing but hot air. The U.S. president has no power whatsoever to prevent any company from outsourcing its manufacturing processes to other countries.
This is not the first time Trump recommended that Apple needs to bring its manufacturing back home in the U.S. He actually suggested the same thing in an interview with Fox News during the 2012 presidential election. Trump also made a similar statement at a press conference for his book "Crippled America."
Statements like these have earned Trump a lot of enemies. In December last year, the renowned group of hacker-activists Anonymous declared total war on Trump in a campaign called #OpTrumpe following the announcement of his anti-Muslim policy. The group also confirmed it was responsible for taking down the Trump Tower website. Anonymous also reminded the presidential candidate to be cautious in what he says.
Also in the same month, Amazon boss Jeff Bezos offered to send Trump to space. The statement came hot on the heels of statements made by Trump over Twitter attacking Amazon and Bezos.
