Things are about to get "pretty messed up" on The Flash, at least according to a new trailer promoting the show's next episode.
In the trailer, Barry and Team Flash still have to deal with Zoom, who has already shown that he's far more powerful than anything they've ever seen. However, it's not just Zoom who's a problem for the team. This trailer also shows a good first-look at Killer Frost (Caitlin Snow's metahuman identity). Of course, there's no indication that this villain is Caitlin from Barry's timeline, and it's possible that she's from Earth 2, especially since Barry will travel there soon.
Perhaps the most exciting part of the clip, though, shows the return of Reverse Flash. Although the original Reverse Flash got erased from existence at the end of season one, perhaps the Earth 2 version of Harrison Wells hides beneath that costume? Or maybe it's someone else wearing that yellow suit instead?
Whatever the case, all these alternate universes make this season of The Flash very wibbly-wobbly.
The midseason finale of The Flash also brought the arrival of Wally West to Iris West's front door. On the show, Wally is the brother she only recently discovered she had.
"That's exactly where we pick back up, at least for Iris's storyline, the impact of his arrival and how that affects the West family," said Candice Patton, who portrays Iris on the series, to IGN. "Immediately Iris finds out that Wally is a streetcar racer, and she understands that to be not too safe. She's not happy about it and she confronts him, whereas Joe is kind of afraid of messing up the relationship with Wally. He acts like more of a friend to him. Iris isn't afraid to be more of a parent and confront him about his dangerous extracurricular activities."
There's also a hint in the trailer that the Earth 2 versions of Barry and Iris are romantically involved, although Patton wouldn't comment on that. However, she did hint about the Earth 2 version of her character.
"Iris's doppelgänger on Earth 2, I will say that she's a lot like her father in Earth 1 — very strong, not as emotionally vulnerable as Iris on Earth 1," said Patton. "It's really nice. Iris Earth 1 is very strong, but I'll say Iris Earth 2 is pretty damn tough."
The Flash returns to The CW on Jan. 19.
