Although The Flash's previous Firestorm, Ronnie Raymond, sacrificed himself to a wormhole to save Central City, it seems that the character isn't gone for good.
A new on-set photo has surfaced showing Robbie Amell, the actor behind Ronnie, once more suited up as Firestorm to take on the bad guys.
The photo shows Amell as Firestorm as he prepares to shoot a scene on location in Vancouver. According to the photo's description, this is probably not the Ronnie we know from Earth-1, but a version of the character from an alternate Earth.
However, it's also possible that this Earth-2 Firestorm is teaming up with the Earth-1 Firestorm combination of Professor Martin Stein and Jefferson "Jax" Jackson on Legends of Tomorrow, which Stein will play a large part in.
Amell also posted some teases on Instagram that he would suit up again for the character:
Professor Stein and Ronnie joined together as Firestorm to keep Ronnie's metahuman powers from going critical. The two could separate and join at will, but together they create a superhero with the ability to rearrange atomic and subatomic structures of inorganic matter. However, when Firestorm raced into the wormhole to close it and save the world, The Flash could only save Professor Stein: Ronnie perished there. The team began searching for a new partner for Professor Stein after discovering that without one, he would die: they found one in Jax.
Of course, the return of Ronnie, even as an Earth-2 version, will make things complicated for Team Flash, particularly for Caitlin Snow, who married the Earth-1 version of the character. Considering that she and Jay Garrick are now romantic partners, things will probably feel a little weird for her. Caitlin's character will eventually become Killer Frost, as previously teased in trailers for season two of The Flash.
The Flash airs Tuesdays on The CW. Legends of Tomorrow premieres on Jan. 21.
