Stacey Sher, a frequent Quentin Tarantino collaborator and one of the producer's of The Hateful Eight, has been named co-president of Activision Blizzard Studios — with the hopes of bringing titles from the video game publisher, known for classics such as the Call of Duty and Skylander franchises, out of the console and onto the big screen.
Sher is known for her work with directors Steven Soderbergh, Richard LaGravenese, and Tarantino, the latter which spans for more than two decades. Sher began partnering with Tarantino while producing the seminal black comedy crime film Pulp Fiction as a member of Jersey Studios. Sher and the director continued to work on films together for over 20 years, including Django Unchained.
"I've found the best filmmakers to work with often want to hear the truth from the people they trust, that are always striving to be the best they can be," said Sher on her past collaborations in an interview with Film School Rejects while promoting The Hateful Eight. "There are times where you have to hold it altogether, so they know they can get through it, like when you're working in the snow or on a mountain and all of these things. Our job is to create a safe place for these people do their best work."
The two-time Oscar nominee's non-Tarantino creds include the Andy Kaufman biopic Man on the Moon, and Soderbergh's Out of Sight and Erin Brockovich.
"Activision Blizzard has created franchises that mean so much to audiences over the course of 35 years. I'm excited about our mandate to create filmed entertainment based on Activision Blizzard games that is as great as the games themselves," Sher said in an official statement issued by Activision Blizzard.
"[I look forward to joining] the insanely talented and forward-thinking team at Activision Blizzard to develop an even greater voice for these franchises by bringing them into the world of television and film," she added.
Sher will be studio co-president with former Disney executive Nick van Dyk.
