Smartphone enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for Samsung to launch the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge, probably in March this year. However, latest leaks suggest that Samsung may surprise smartphone lovers and may launch the Galaxy S7 edge+ along with the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge at the 2015 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in early March 2015. The Galaxy S6 edge+ made an appearance during a Samsung press event in New York on Aug. 13, 2015. Mobile phone customers would be hoping that Samsung will launch the successors of the three mobile phones in the same time frame in 2016 but it may not be the case.
Evan Blass, who is well-known by his Twitter handle @evleaks, has released an image of what could be the logos of the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S7 edge+. The tweet hints at a big Samsung event where the company may unveil all three phones.
The Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge sports a 5.1-inch display. Most of the hardware specs of the two phones are similar apart from the screen of the Galaxy edge, which are curved at the edges.
Some specs of the Galaxy S6 edge+ are also similar to the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge but it has a bigger 5.7-inch display, more RAM and a bigger battery.
If rumors are to be believed then Samsung will switch back to Qualcomm Snapdragon processor in the Galaxy S7 series and will include the latest Snapdragon 820 chipset in the three devices. The Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge are also speculated to include 4 GB of RAM, a bump from 3 GB of RAM as found in the previous iterations.
The Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge did not come with a microSD card slot, but speculations are rife that the next-generation handsets will support microSD cards.
The Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge may include a 5.1-inch screen, same as its predecessors. However, Samsung may opt for a smaller 5.5-inch display instead of a 5.7-inch one in the Galaxy S7 edge+.
Samsung may also include retina scanner, fast charging capability and pressure-sensitive technology in the next-gen devices. All the three phones are also expected to come running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out of the box.
It may make sense for Samsung to launch the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S7 edge+ as they belong to the same lineup but the smartphones will suite individual taste preference of customers. If these three phones share the same stage, then Samsung could focus just on the Note series in the second half of the year.
Samsung has not revealed any information pertaining to its upcoming smartphones of 2016. However, rumors claim that Samsung may push forward the launch of the Galaxy S7 and its siblings as the company did with the Galaxy Note 5.
Smartphone enthusiasts will hope that Samsung launches all the three devices together but till then all rumors about the upcoming Galaxy smartphones should be taken with a pinch of salt.
