Hands-On With Under Armour's HealthBox Connected Fitness System And Smart Sneakers At CES 2016

"Exercise smarter, feel better and live longer."

It's the tag line that Under Armour uses to tout its all-new HealthBox connected fitness system and first smart shoe, the UA SpeedForm Gemini 2 Record Equipped.

At the company's Consumer Electronics Show 2016 booth inside the Sands in Las Vegas on Thursday, Jan. 7, Tech Times had a hands-on experience with all of Under Armour's impending connected fitness tech. It's quite clear the interlocking U and A is making a concerted effort with connectivity in its near future and beyond.

The $400 HealthBox contains Under Armour's smart fitness-tracking Band, Heart Rate monitor and Scale. The Band tracks users' heart rate, steps, distance and calorie burn over a continuous 24/7 cycle in addition to their quality and duration of sleep.

Meanwhile, the Heart Rate wearable monitor tracks the heart rate zone and intensity of the user's workouts, syncing with the Band to display real-time heart rate and heart rate zones. Both devices have Bluetooth capability.

The Scale allows users to set their weight goal and track their progress, measuring body weight and body fat percentage, while boasting auto-recognition for up to eight users.

All three devices in Under Armour's HealthBox are water resistant and connect to the company's Record app, which essentially serves as the dashboard, tracking users fitness, activity, nutrition, and sleep. Each of the three devices will also be sold separately in case users don't wish to plop down $400 on the HealthBox later this month. Under Armour worked with HTC on each device within the HealthBox, adding to their tech savvy.

In addition to the HealthBox, the company is also excited about the impending release of its first smart sneaker, the UA SpeedForm Gemini 2 Record Equipped.

The sneakers track user steps and fitness data, using an embedded chip. Like the contents of the HealthBox, the sneakers sync with UA's accompanying smartphone app.

The sneakers will retail for $150 upon their February release.
