New Trailer For 'Dying Light' Expansion 'The Following' Teases Strange Cult And Prophecy

The first expansion for Dying Light, "The Following," arrives next month. In anticipation of that, developer Techland released a new trailer that offers hints about the new settings and characters that Kyle Crane will face as he journeys further into the zombie apocalypse.

The trailer teases the fanatical group, or cult, that Crane will come across, a group that may know something important about the zombie virus. The voice-over for the clip tells of a prophecy and a chosen one who will make the "ultimate sacrifice" for the good of mankind.

Of course, the trailer hints that this chosen one is Crane, although it's likely that perhaps the group only believes that Crane is their saviour. Whatever the case, Crane must meet with this group and traverse an entirely new area in the game to find out exactly what's going on.

"In the expansion, we're aiming for a bit of a different mood to the story," said producer Tymon Smektała in an emailed press release. "We all love some old good mystery, whether it's X-Files or Twin Peaks, so that's an element we're introducing to our world in Dying Light: The Following."

"The Following takes Crane into a massive new area, one that covers more space than the map of the base Dying Light game. This area is a dangerous outback that is not just full with hordes of zombies, but also contains this cult that could have a link to how the zombie apocalypse started in the first place. Fortunately, for Crane, he also gets a new vehicle to traverse this world: a customizable dirt buggy.

Last month, Techland released a story trailer that shows the beginning of "The Following," outlining how Crane discovers this new area and how he plans on escaping Harran.

Dying Light released in February 2015 and follows Crane as he becomes infected by the zombie virus and tries to survive in the world of Harran, where the virus has become prevalent. He must work with other survivors, while making sure he has a regularly available supply of Antizin, a drug that keeps the virus at bay and prevents Crane from becoming one of the mindless undead.

"The Following" releases as downloadable content on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on Feb. 9. Players can purchase the expansion for $19.99 or access it via the Season Pass and as part of Dying Light: The Following - Enhanced Edition.
