Polaroid is shifting gears as the company took the wraps off its high-end offering, the Polaroid Power, during the CES 2016 in Las Vegas.
Alongside Polaroid Power, it also unwrapped Polaroid Snap – a series of phones which will be available in 5-, 5.5- and 6-inch versions.
In the past years, the company was known for manufacturing cameras. In fact, the first Polaroid camera was released back in 1948. In 2001, it filed for bankruptcy as digital cameras outdated its Polaroid camera. It was just in the recent years that Polaroid also ventured into producing other types of devices, including smartphones.
It is worth noting, though, that Polaroid was not the one that manufactured the two new handsets. Instead, it licensed its brand to Southern Telecom, which handled the design and production of the phones.
While there are not any fancy specs and features in these two new handsets, the devices' bestselling points are their relatively low price tags.
When they arrive, the new Polaroid phones will be sold unlocked. This means they should be compatible with T-Mobile and AT&T.
Additionally, these are going to be powered by Google's Android 5.1 Lollipop and can support microSD memory cards.
Here is a rundown of specs under the hood of these two smartphones.
Polaroid Power
The phone will arrive sporting a 6-inch full HD display. Aside from that, it will come equipped with a 64-bit octa-core processor and will include 3 GB of RAM plus 32 GB of internal storage.
What makes this a sweet purchase is the rocking 13-megapixel snapper at the back boasting dual LED flash. Its front shooter, on the other hand, will feature a 8-megapixel camera with a front-facing flash, making it a lovely piece for selfie fanatics.
Polaroid Power will also rock 3,000 mAh battery. Price-wise, buyers will only need to fork $249.99 out of their pockets.
Polaroid Snap
All variants of the Snap will be powered by a quad-core processor accompanied by 16 GB of storage, 2 GB of RAM and will also boast 720p HD screens.
The phone will house a 13-megapixel shooter on the back of the phone, and also a flash. Selfie addicts will also drool over its front-facing camera which touts a 5-megapixel one with a selfie flash.
The price starts at $129.99 through $179.99, depending on the size of the phone's screen.
The Polaroid Power is expected to start hitting the store shelves in the spring, while the Snap is believed to land sometime in February. Polaroid said it will disclose more details when these phones are closer to being rolled out.
In the meantime, Polaroid also unveiled its Snap+ Instant Camera at CES 2016.
