Polaroid’s continuing its line of instant cameras with Snap+, the successor to the original Polaroid Snap. While it’s still a camera that prints out pictures using a printer that heats up special paper to make color images, pretty much everything else about the Snap+ has been improved over the old model.
There’s the 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen, a 13-megapixel CMOS sensor for better images and recording, and the ability to connect via Bluetooth to other devices (via the Polaroid print app, of course) to print images from them. Said app also comes with effects, filters, stickers, and editing capabilities — making the Snap+ kind of like a camera combined with the likes of Instagram. Oh, and a printer.
Even better? The Snap+ comes with a timer and “pop-up selfie mirror” to make sure folks get exactly the shot they want. One assumes that the mirror’s used to make sure a particular angle is flattering before the actual pic is snapped, thereby preventing any distasteful images of the user’s mug from entering into the digital world. Nobody wants to be printing an ugly selfie.
On the other hand, everyone wants to be printing lovely selfies — which is why the Polaroid Snap+ also includes the ability to queue up to 10 images to print at a single time. No more waiting! Well, some waiting if the user’s looking to print 11 or more images at once. When they do print, however, there’s three options to pick from: black and white, color, and vintage sepia. For those who truly want to go retro, there’s also the Polaroid Classic Border Logo.
The Polaroid Snap+ instant camera is currently scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2016. Price and exact availability are currently unknown, though the current Polaroid Snap retails for $99.99.
