The Philips Izzy Is A Multiroom Wireless Speaker System That Requires Minimal Setup

Gibson’s got a whole slew of announcements under the literal and figurative tent it sets up each year in the Las Vegas Convention Center parking lot. Of all of the different products arriving under the Philips and Onkyo lines, the most compelling may be the Izzy.

With a name we can only assume was inspired by a certain Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver guitar slinger, the speaker system brings wireless sounds to multiple rooms using, get this, Izzylink technology, which avoids the need for a separate app, passwords, and annoying router setup up.

The process involves playing music wirelessly via Bluetooth through a single speaker and then hitting the “Group” button, which will sync playback to up to 4 other speakers in its range, one at a time. Once complete, the Izzylink network will be stored even when the speaker is unplugged. Philips is showing off several different speaker types, including the BM50B, which allow for playback from multiple musical sources, including CD, FM, and USB Direct over 802.11n wireless.
