Casio’s amusingly named COO Kazuhiro Kashio orchestrated a bit of a buzz over the summer by offering up a bit of information on the company’s plans to launch a device that would, “bring our smartwatch to a level of watch perfection: a device that won't break easily, is simple to put on and feels good to wear.”
The jury’s still out on the whole perfection bit, of course, but the Smart Outdoor Watch WSD-F10 certainly seems to live up to the part about not breaking easily. Announced today at CES in Las Vegas, the Android Wear device looks like it can take a licking, as a certain competitor used to put it, with water resistance up to 50 meters and a rugged casing that’s said to be up to military standard specifications.
Naturally, the device also has a display designed to be readable in the great outdoors, utilizing dual layers of monochrome and color LCDs for clarity in direct sunlight. On that screen, users will be able to access a variety of apps designed by Casio to get info on such outdoor kid activities as hiking, fishing, and a cycling.
The WSD-F10 has a bunch of sensors on-board, giving readings for direction, air pressure, and movement, along with info on sunsets, tides, altitude, and the like. More info, including pricing and availability is still forthcoming.
