The latest in Altec Lansing’s line of all-weather Bluetooth speakers, the Super LifeJacket, is a rather robust little set featuring omni-directional sound that also happens to be the most waterproof offering from the company yet.
The system, which clocks in at just under five pounds and 4.65 inches high by 12.25 inches wide with a depth of 3.66 inches, comes with an IP68 rating — meaning that it’s dust-tight and protected against complete, continuous submersion in water. They’re not going so far as to say folks should keep it at the bottom of their pool, but if it were to slip into the deep end for a bit for whatever reason, it’d be right as rain when pulled out.
The speaker system also features “a three-way speaker enclosure, featuring dual two-inch neodymium woofers, dual 1.2-inch tweeters, dual 2.5-inch subwoofers and dual three-inch passive radiators,” according to a press release out of CES 2016. All that is to say it should have bass with significant oomph behind it as well as improvements to both mids and highs. Additionally, it has a 100-foot Bluetooth range, a 50-hour battery lifespan, the ability to pair with up to seven speakers, multi-point pairing for playing audio from multiple devices and more.
The Super LifeJacket is compatible with Bluetooth-enabled Android, Apple and BlackBerry phones as well as laptops and tablets. Basically, if your mobile device can connect via Bluetooth to another device, it should probably work here. However, if not, there’s also a 3.5 mm aux port to wire into the thing. The all-weather system is scheduled to release in Q2 2016 with an MSRP of $299.99.
