If regular blaring alarm clocks won't bring you out of your cocoon-like sleep state in the morning, perhaps you need something a bit more on the physical side — like the iLuv Smartshaker 2, which can literally shake chronic sleepyheads awake with a smartphone extension.
Announced at CES 2016 and designed by app developer iLuv Creative Technology, the CES award-winning gadget uses Bluetooth technology to hook up your smartphone to a circular featherweight that can be inserted under the sleeper's pillow. Users can set their alarms with pre-loaded bells and whistles (including options like the 103-decibel panic sound or the earthquake vibration setting) to get you out of bed, as well as an array of voice recordings, tones and music. Each sound can be customized with sliding variable levels up and down the pillow app's personal Richter scale.
Using Bluetooth, the Smartshaker can be synchronized with other alarm-inducing devices for an extra early morning oomph, like smart lights and music systems (as well as iLuv LED bulb products like the Rainbow 7 or Rainbow 8, of course).
While the Smartshaker can be used by anyone, iLuv marketing manager Jason Park called it "the perfect example of how our innovative drive has created a device to solve a common problem," in a press statement released by the company on Jan. 4, noting that "roommates to the heavy sleeper and hearing impaired" might benefit greatly from the device.
While the iLuv Smartshaker 2 is currently patent-pending, sleepyheads have plenty of time to get all shook up for its launch — the $29.99 device has a slated release for March 2016 on Amazon and other online retailers.
