Tonight brings the return of Supergirl to CBS, and in a new sneak peek at a scene from the new episode "Blood Bonds," Hank Henshaw gets kidnapped.
With Astra in prison, her husband, Non, goes after the head of the DEO and takes him prisoner. However, Non is in for a surprise: all attempts to read Hank's mind are unsuccessful. Of course, he just thinks that this is because humans have created technology that blocks mind reading, but as viewers learned last year, Hank isn't really Hank at all, or even human: instead, he is J'onn J'onzz, aka Martian Manhunter.
Here's the official description of "Blood Bonds:"
"With Astra in captivity at the DEO, her husband, Non (Chris Vance), captures Hank, leading to a tense standoff between the two sides. Also, Kara continues to refute Cat's allegations that she is Supergirl."
A previous trailer released to promote the rest of this season of Supergirl teased that Kara eventually learns of Hank's true identity. This comes right after the midseason finale, where Kara's boss, Cat Grant, reveals that she knows Kara is Supergirl. It looks like the last half of the first season of the series is about unveiling secrets, so perhaps we'll also learn what Vastra is up to, especially now that she's claiming that she wants to help save Earth. But the question is: what is she trying to save Earth from?
Supergirl will also face a new villain soon: Toyman. In DC Comics, Toyman is a villain who uses toys to commit his crimes, such as water pistols that spray acid, toy soldiers that carry real guns and super creepy dolls. But Toyman isn't just any villain: he's also Winn's father. This means we'll see more depth to Winn's story, too.
"Winn's dad is a supervillain," said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg to Entertainment Weekly. "Somebody who is dealing with that shame, humiliation, regret, and emotion — Winn's been presented as a pretty happy-go-lucky, nice and sweet guy, but he came from a very dark place."
"Blood Bonds" picks up where the midseason finale left off with Non and Supergirl beginning to fight.
"The episode ends with one of my favorite lines I've written, which is Non saying, 'To think you're the last woman to survive the House of El,' and Kara says, 'You're going to wish I died with the rest of them,' " said Kreisberg. "Them flying at each other is the cliffhanger. When we come back, we have one of our coolest fights that we've done to kick off the episode."
Supergirl airs Monday nights on CBS.
