Although CBS' Supergirl is on a break until the New Year, a new trailer released by the network shows that Kara (Melissa Benoist) will have a lot of new challenges to deal with when 2016 finally rolls around.
Not only does her boss now know her true identity, but Kara also finally learns that the man she knew as Hank Henshaw (David Harewood) is actually an alien just like her, Martian Manhunter. Of course, that news comes shortly after her boss, Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), puts two and two together and figures out that Kara is Supergirl. Kara, however, continues to deny her alter ego.
However, that's just the beginning, because Kara also faces a new threat on the series: Toyman (Henry Czerny). In this new trailer, we get a peek at one of the villain's evil dolls.
The clip also shows Maxwell Lord (Peter Facinelli) holding James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) hostage. It's become obvious that Maxwell is sort of a villain, too, but not in the traditional sense.
"For us, the best villains are the ones who aren't mustache-twirling, 'I want to kill everybody,' said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg to Entertainment Weekly. "Max really believes he's out to protect the human race. He says in an upcoming episode, 'When Gods walk the Earth, it's mortals that get the short end of the stick.' He doesn't see the difference between Supergirl and the rest of them, just in the same way that General Lane doesn't."
Of course, it seems that everyone wants to protect the Earth in some way on the series, including Astra (Laura Benanti) and Supergirl. The problem is that everyone has a different idea on how to do that, or what's best for the planet.
Although the trailer doesn't show it, this season will also soon bring the White Martians to National City.
"In Episode 11, we have a visitor from another planet who's a White Martian," said Harewood to ComicBook.com. "There are two Martian species — it feels really weird talking about this. I've not been able to say anything about it — there is a Green Martian species and a White Martian species and the White Martians, in our story, are responsible for the death of the whole of the Green Martians. It was a fire and they burned them and we get to see a lot of that."
Supergirl returns to CBS on Jan. 4.
