Indian Scout hits the market with a classy redesign, $11K price tag

The recently reborn Indian Motorcycle company is resurrecting the classic Indian Scout motorcycle, complete with a $10,999 price tag.

The bike is powered by a 69-cubic-inch V-twin engine with 100HP, and features an extremely classy design that's sure to make any motorcycle fan drool.

The motorcycle was originally built between 1920 and 1949, and was known for its versatility and good handling. The 101 Scout is actually still the preferred motorcycle to be used in vintage motor drome racing.

Despite being so well known, Indian Motorcycles went bankrupt in 1953, and the company went through some hard times until Polaris Industries finally bought it in 2011. The company is now challenging industry king Harley-Davidson and released three new models last year.

The new 2015 Indian Scout is a modern interpretation of the classic motorcycle. It was unveiled at the Sturgis motorcycle rally in South Dakota, a meeting point for some of the most enthusiastic motorcycle fans.

One way in which it steps into the modern era of motorcycles is that it includes a liquid-cooled engine, along with polished accents that are reminiscent of the classic motorcycle from decades ago, yet modern looking enough to make the bike look relevant and fresh.

"Over the course of 30 years of countless innovations, racing wins, world records and industry firsts, the Scout has earned its reputation as a versatile, multifaceted bike that appeals to just about every rider and every riding style, with superior handling, balance, performance and craftsmanship," said Steve Menneto, the vice president of motorcycles for Polaris.

Coming in at 558 pounds, the 2015 Indian Scout is the lightest of its class, and will be up against the likes of the Harley-Davidson Roadster. The frame of the motorcycle is made from a durable and lightweight cast aluminum and the seat is 25.3-inches high for maximum comfort and maneuverability.

Including the new Indian Scout, Indian now has five motorcycle models under its belt. While Indian only has a market share of 3 percent, Polaris has a number of growth targets for its motorcycle business, which includes a number of new models to be released.

Some celebrities have already expressed excitement over the 2015 Indian Scout motorcycle, with Mark Whalberg showing up at Sturgis in South Dakota and giving the motorcycle a test drive.

The new Indian Scout is expected to hit showrooms later this year, and will be sold for $10,999. It will be joined by the recently unveiled Indian Roadmaster touring bike, which has a price tag of $26,999.
