This year is no exception to the event's popularity, with organizers saying that the ball which will plunge 470 feet from over Times Square to welcome 2016 is designed to make people take in the ideas of "wonderment, fantasy and optimism that nourishes the seeds of knowledge and achievement" as they count down to the new year. The ball was designed with 2,688 crystal triangle pieces, crafted by the best artisans of Waterford, for this year's theme, which is the "Gift of Imagination."
