If you've ever wanted to moonwalk — not the Michael Jackson dance move, but actually walk on the moon — a pair of magnetized shoes might be able to give you the exact same experience here on Earth.
Advertised as "shoes that defy gravity," the 20:16 MoonWalker shoes harness the fundamental opposition between magnets when they are aligned in a particular way, also known as repulsive force. To work, the shoes are equipped with two sole layers that account for their height and heft. Both layers are comprised of specifically-placed N45 Neodymium magnets, with their north poles facing each other. As a result, the shoes repel each other — and purportedly create the sensation of walking on a gravity-deficient surface, or "a force field that keeps you suspended in space."
Priced at $150 per pair, the shoes also tout a comfort factor as an additional amenity due to the use of breathable fabrics and a memory foam insole, according to the makers behind the 20:16 MoonWalker. Despite the fact that certain critics have balked at their aesthetic, the MoonWalker team markets its look as "futuristic" and "urban."
Right now, the shoe is only in prototype form, so to put it in full-blown production, the creators have initiated a campaign via Indiegogo. With 34 days in the fundraising mission left to go, as of now, they have raised 25 percent of their $20,000 goal.
