A group of three gameplay videos released by Koei Tecmo showcases the frenetic action of whipping around in a set of “Three Dimensional Maneuver Gear” in its upcoming Attack on Titan video game developed by Omega Force and based on the popular anime and manga of the same name. There are many reasons for the franchise’s appeal, but the fast-paced aerobatics is certainly one of them, and it looks like the game will certainly deliver on that.
The first video has Eren Yeager zooming to and fro demonstrating the basic abilities of the game on the aforementioned Titans — giant, naked creatures that are as far into the uncanny valley as they are unsettling. The video specifically focuses on the targeting of body parts to sever, gathering of important items like blades from other characters, some very basic team-based gameplay, and more.
The second video focuses almost exclusively on how teams work together in the game. Though the player only directly controls one character, several NPCs can be tasked with helping take down the Titans. As many as four total characters, the player included, appear to be able to party up to accomplish this. The benefit to attacking as a party should be obvious: more targets for the Titans means they’re less likely to focus down the player.
The third shifts gears to let Captain Levi show off his stuff — which also happens to look quite a bit more like the action one might expect from an Attack on Titan video game after seeing the anime. Levi quickly moving from arms, to legs, to necks, to the air, to the ground, and just … being everywhere at once is a sight to see. It’s also fairly comforting that the game can be faithful to the source material when it wants to be, which is often the downfall of licensed video games.
Attack on Titan is scheduled to release in Japan on Feb. 18, 2016, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.
