Koei Tecmo Releases Tons Of New 'Attack On Titan' Screen Shots And Gameplay Clips

There's really no denying that Attack on Titan is one of the most popular anime in recent memory. Despite the fact that the show went on hiatus following the first season, Attack on Titan remained one of the most popular anime series, and maintains an absolutely massive fanbase to this day.

Sadly, popularity doesn't guarantee quality: a pair of atrocious live-action films have left something of a stain on the franchise. Sure, there were sub-par marketing tie-ins before the Attack on Titan movies launched, but the films served as the first truly bad product to come out of the series — and now, fans are looking for something that can do the original Attack on Titan anime justice before the anime itself returns.

Surprisingly, it looks like that may come in video game form. Koei Tecmo's upcoming PlayStation game, simply titled Attack on Titan, is everything you'd expect from a game based off the anime: there's a lot of sword-swinging, a lot of ridiculous and/or impossible aerial maneuvers, and of course, a lot of Titans. Oh, and if you haven't seen the game in action quite yet, you're in luck: Koei Tecmo (via Siliconera) just released a huge batch of screen shots and gameplay clips late last week.

At the very least ... well, the Titans are definitely as creepy as ever.

It's actually kind of amazing that Koei Tecmo was able to recreate the Titans so faithfully. The monsters are unsettling because they're almost human — and Koei Tecmo nailed that aesthetic perfectly. It's a good thing, too: if the Titans didn't look right, there's a good chance the rest of the game could have suffered.

Speaking of the rest of the game, the gameplay itself is hard to judge. Attack on Titan certainly looks the part, with players whipping back and forth through the air before slicing through the back of a Titan's neck, but whether or not the game is actually fun to play is still up in the air. With any luck, Koei Tecmo managed to figure out a way to translate the series' complex maneuvers into simple controls — otherwise, the game could end up being a nightmare to play.

All things considered, the Attack on Titan PlayStation game is looking great. Koei Tecmo absolutely nailed the series' iconic style, and the gameplay mechanics look like they'll be just as fast-paced and over-the-top as the source material ... now, all that's left to do is actually play it.

Granted, it'll still be some time before Western fans get their hands on the game: Attack on Titan is due out for all PlayStation platforms sometime next year.
