MediaTek Helio X20 Spotted In Geekbench Tests Dominating Multicore Scores

It appears that MediaTek could be a supplier of high-end chipsets for handsets in the coming year.

MediaTek's deca-core chipset tagged Helio X20 appeared in Geekbench, showing off impressive multicore performance. This is the first time the chipset surfaced in Geekbench tests.

This 10-core chipset was revealed back in May of this year, making it the very first mobile chipset to have this number of cores. Two of these cores are Cortex A72 while four are Cortex A53 cores, which are clocked at 2.0 GHz. The other four are Cortex A53 cores, which are clocked at 1.4 GHz.

Specifically, a device with the codename "alps mt6797"popped up on Geekbench notching notable scores.

The benchmark result divulged that MediaTek Helio X20 garnered 7,037 points in the multicore. As a point of comparison, Kirin 950 got 6,245 points, Snapdragon 820 (developer unit) notched a score of 5,400 and the Apple A9 recorded 4,578 points.

In the meantime, in the single core test, it seemed that Helio 820 could not beat Apple A9 and Snapdragon 820. Apple A9 scored 2,576, Snapdragon 820 got 2,320, Helio X20 had 2,103 while Kirin 950 recorded 1,871 points.

When Is The Mass Production

An official from the company said that Helio X20 is going to be mass produced starting the second quarter of the coming year.

It is anticipated that Xiaomi and Meizu handset makers are going to incorporate Helio X20 in their upcoming smartphones.

Impressive Chip

For now, it seems that Helio X20 is indeed a powerful chipset, based on the benchmark results. Nevertheless, this is not only the factor we should look into prior to making conclusions. We have yet to see if the chip will be free of various troubles, such as overheating and efficiency problems.

Earlier this month, we reported that details of the MediaTek Helio X12 have been divulged, suggesting that the chipset is going to boast higher CPU clock speeds and improved battery efficiency.

This mid-tier Helio X12 from the Taiwan-based chipset maker is said to be an upgraded version of the Helio X10. Furthermore, it is considered to be in a similar bracket as the Exynos 7422 and Snapdragon 620/618.

G4Games initially cited an anonymous source who allegedly shared details of the SoC thru an email. The source revealed that the Helio X12 is going to bring in a ton of improvements.

"Our source claims that the SoC will be an upgraded Helio X10, which is why the chipset is known by the model number 'MT6795X,'" writes the site.
