'Legends Of Tomorrow' Team Travels Back In Time To Save Humanity In New TV Ad

Actor Arthur Darvill knows a thing or two about time travel, thanks to a stint as a companion on Doctor Who, where his character, Rory, traveled through time and space with a "mad man in a blue box."

Now, Darvill takes on the role of another time traveler, Rip Hunter, in The CW's new series Legends of Tomorrow. Hunter recruits a team of superheroes to prevent an apocalypse dreamed up by none other than Vandal Savage (Casper Crump).

Anyone who's watched Arrow or The Flash already know this team of superheroes from their appearances on those shows, including The Atom (Brandon Routh), White Canary (Caity Lotz), Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée) and Hawkman (Falk Hentschel). Helping the team is The Flash's Dr. Martin Stein (Victor Garber) and Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes). Other familiar faces from both series are also likely to turn up.

The CW just released a new TV ad that shows the team traveling throughout time, as they hunt down Savage and try to stop him from creating a bleak future that could end mankind.

Vandal Savage was presumably killed on Arrow, but a scene after his "death" showed Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) collecting his ashes while saying "You owe me one, buddy." As usually is the case on these shows, the villain probably isn't dead, especially since he is the big bad guy on Legends of Tomorrow.

Those involved with the show promise something epic.

"This is as crazy I think as I've ever been involved with and ever heard of," said executive producer Phil Klemmer at San Diego Comic-Con as reported by Nerd Reactor. "Trying to do a feature film ensemble time travel superhero show every week? I mean, in the pilot, there was a scene that took us three days to shoot with air rams, pyrotechnics, people on wire, The Atom blasting people in his suit, and shooting at 60 frames in a 6k camera."

Lotz, who started out as Black Canary on Arrow, agrees.

"It's going to be big," she said to Movie Web. "I did not really know much about the show [initially] but I said 'I want to do it, I trust you guys.' And when we were shooting our teaser, they were telling me some of the stuff that's going to be happening and I was like 'This is way cooler — not that I didn't think it would be cool ... but the stuff [happening], I wasn't imagining or picturing [that]."

Legends of Tomorrow premieres Jan. 21 on The CW.
