Disney is rolling in more dough that it has ever had in the history of the company, and it should come as no surprise seeing as most of Disney's investments are paying off in more ways than one.
The multimedia company has managed to earn over $5 billion throughout 2015, the first time it has ever earned that amount in a single year. With a number of strong franchises the Mickey Mouse factory has under its belt, we are certain the company will strike gold once more.
Making whopping billions of dollars at the box office is no easy feat since it takes a consistent amount of hit films to meet the mark. Disney has done this with the help of movies under the Marvel and Pixar banner, and in a small way from an individual movie from Lucasfilm.
Leaving aside the whopping success that is "Star Wars: The Force Awkens," which shattered records and stirred a whole Frenzy, other titles played their role in Disney's impressive success in 2015.
This year, Marvel released two hit films – "Avengers: Age of Ultron," and "Ant-Man." The former, according to many critics, is a decent enough film, but not as good as the first "Avengers" movie. The film went on to make $459 million domestically and $1.4 billion globally.
As for "Ant-Man," it didn't do as well as "Age of Ultron," seeing as it is a film with an entirely new character. Still, the movie managed to hold its own at the box office and managed to make $180.1 million domestically and $519.1 million globally. That is far more than what some have come to expect from the film, so we're certain the other one will do even better.
The Pixar film "Inside Out," meanwhile, is probably the best to come out of the company in 2015. It's no "Frozen," but boy, it performed well at the box office and was not too far away from hitting the $1 billion jackpot when it comes to worldwide sales.
And then there is a certain film called "The Good Dinosaur." It did not perform as it should or as expected when shown in the theaters. Actually, the film cost $200 million to make, but it only earned little more than $180 million.
That's not all, Disney also released a live-action version of "Cinderella," and as expected, it went on to become a hit movie that many are still talking about today. "Cinderella" went on to earn $201.1 million from domestic sales, and $542.5 million from global sales. We saw it, and it is safe to say that Disney is in a world of its own when it comes down to rocking the world with this type of films.
With the amount of hit films released this year under the Disney banner, earning $5 billion for the first time was a must. It's an important milestone and proves that Disney's investments were not reckless, as some have thought.
Other companies that have earned $5 billion at the box office in a single year includes the likes of Fox and Warner Bros.
The year 2016 is another big one for Disney, with several Marvel films scheduled and another Lucasfilms movie set for showing at the end of the year. Don't be surprised if the company makes another $5 billion once more, or even tops its new record.
