You Can Now Play Classic 'Halo' Map Blood Gulch In 'Counter-Strike': Here's How To Get It

A video game enthusiast has created the famous Halo map Blood Gulch in Counter-Strike.

Blood Gulch is a multiplayer level in Halo: Combat Evolved. Gamers play the game in an enclosed symmetrical canyon with a base at both ends and an open field in between. Blood Gulch has support for vehicles and is recommended for four to 16 players. The size and simplicity of the map has led to the high popularity of Blood Gulch.

A Steam player going by the name Itszu has created Blood Gulch in the first-person shooter video game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), which was developed by Hidden Path Entertainment and Valve Corporation. CS:GO is the fourth in the Counter-Strike franchise and it was released in August 2012 and was made available for Windows and OS X on Steam and Xbox 360. A U.S. exclusive version was also released on Sony PlayStation 3.

The Blood Gulch level was also recreated as Coagulation for Halo 2 and it also became an inspiration for Valhalla in Halo 3. The level was also recreated as a multiplayer map in Halo Wars. Even though Blood Gulch was not recreated for Halo 4, the video game still includes a remake of the Valhalla map of Halo 3 called Ragnarok.

Itszu explains in a Steam Workshop post that all the level geometry in Blood Gulch for CS:GO is hand-done, including displacements and brushworks.

"Textures have been modified as needed to support Source's unique texture parameters. All scenery (rocks, trees) ported with Wall Worm Model Tools from Gearbox's level assets for Halo Custom Edition, with hand-done custom collisions to conform to Source's convex requirements. Some textures are heavily modified from the original, and others are entirely new due to differences in texture tech between Halo's Blam engine and Source 2013," per Itszu.

Itszu has posted a number of screenshots of the map. Gamers can download the Blood Gulch Map for CS:GO by subscribing to "csgo_bloodgulch" Steam Workshop. Once a user clicks on "Subscribe" of the Steam Workshop then a message will appear and the map will be added to the user's subscriptions.

"This item has been added to your Subscriptions. Some games will require you to relaunch them before the item will be downloaded," per the message that appears after clicking on the subscription option.

"Go to play with friends then invite them to your lobby and set the game to private. Simply start the game and the map will download automatically and they will be able to play with you," commented a user on the post.

Recreating a map can take a lot of time and Itzsu has devoted a lot of time for recreating Blood Gulch for CS:GO. Many users have praised Itszu for recreating the map.

"Very impressive to say the least. I've played other recreations and also tried to make this map myself for CS:GO, but never finished it as I never felt that I got it right. But you certainly have, and the amount of extra details such as making the trees, stones and bushes be on the correct place (even had to Google it and compare with the original) as well just shows how much work you put into this. Kudos for making the map as good as it could be! 10/10 no doubt," praised a user on Steam.
