January 2016 Xbox Live Games With Gold Features 'Killer Instinct', 'Deus Ex: Human Revolution'

It's almost January, and that means a new batch of free games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers.

With the Xbox One's new Xbox 360 backwards compatibility, subscribers who own an Xbox One are actually getting five free games next over the long standard two. On Xbox 360, players will be able to download the cyberpunk shooter/RPG Deus Ex: Human Revolution free of charge starting on Jan. 16 through the end of the month. That should give gamers time to play through the title before the release of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided in August. Also free for the Xbox 360 is the racing title Dirt Showdown. It will be available in the first half of January.

On the Xbox One side of the equation, players can pick up a bundled version of Killer Instinct for free. Killer Instinct Season 1: Ultra Edition comes with eight fighters, 16 accessory packs, eight alternate costumes and a copy of the original Killer Instinct from 1994, which some gamers may have already played in Microsoft's Rare Replay. Killer Instinct will be free for the entire month of January, so expect plenty of combo breakers in the near future.

A new release called Zheros will make its debut on January 16 and will be available until February 15. The game looks to be 3D beat em' up with a sci-fi aesthetic that should be perfect for couch co-op. For those who still haven't done so, one of last month's free games, Thief, will still be available for free until January 15.
