Square Enix Releases 'Kingdom Hearts 2.8' And 'Kingdom Hearts 3' Trailer

Square Enix has released a new trailer that features the uniquely named Kingdom Hearts 2.8 and Kingdom Hearts 3 at the ongoing Jump Festa in Japan.

The first half of the released trailer focuses on the prologue for Kingdom Hearts 2.8, showing much improved graphics and amazing-looking cut scenes. The trailer is in Japanese with English subtitles, but mentions that the final version of the game will be including audio and text in English.

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 combines remakes of several games in the Kingdom Hearts franchise that have been released in the past, which makes it a great way for new players to catch up to the series.

The games included in Kingdom Hearts 2.8, the full name of which is Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, are the remastered Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, cinematics from Kingdom Hearts Unchained x [chi], and a new chapter that takes place after the story of Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep.

No new details were revealed regarding the game though, with Square Enix simply stating that Kingdom Hearts 2.8 is under development. The title will be exclusively released on the PlayStation 4 in 2016.

The trailer released by Square Enix continues with new footage for Kingdom Hearts 3, beginning at the 3:35 mark of the video. The video shows gameplay for the upcoming title, focusing on the familiar combat system as Sora defeats a multitude of enemies using the keyblade and backed up by companions Donald Duck and Goofy. The footage shows Sora using the keyblade to slash monsters and magic to shoot projectiles, among other attacks launched.

The end of the trailer likewise mentions that Kingdom Hearts 3 is under development, but it will be released for both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.

No release date for the title was mentioned, and it might not come out until 2017 as Square Enix would be busy in 2016 with Final Fantasy XV as its major game of the year.
