While the weekend of Dec. 11 to Dec. 13 might have been the month's hottest recorded weekend in 142 years, many in the tradition of songwriter Irving Berlin are dreaming of a white Christmas (or holiday season, or Kwanzaa, or belated Hanukkah, or Festivus). It turns out that engineers at RE2 Robotics, Inc., might have had the same idea, and created a snowflake-producing robot to wish everyone happy holidays.
Much like you did in grade school, the bot takes a folded sheet of paper, and with the help of scissors and a few precisely-placed cuts, shapes an ordinary page into a unique flake.
Known for making mobile robotic manipulation systems, RE2's creations "enable robots to better interact with the world — whether on the ground, in the air, or underwater," according to the company's website.
