ComiXology Feels The Force By Offering Free And Discounted 'Star Wars' Comics

Star Wars fans looking to get their hands on some free or on sale comics should visit ComiXology today: in honor of the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in theaters, the site now offers one free comic book, as well as discounts on other Star Wars-related titles.

"Did you feel it?" asks ComiXology in an emailed press release. "The Force has awakened at ComiXology with a complete site takeover for the debut of the much-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie premiere! All day ComiXology will celebrate the latest Star Wars full-length feature film by spotlighting Star Wars digital comics available on ComiXology."

Today only, Star Wars fans can grab a free digital copy of Darth Vader #1 — Director's Cut. This issue is a reissue of Darth Vader #1, but it includes some behind-the-scenes details about the creation of the comic book by writer Kieron Gillen and artist Salvador Larroca. The issue also includes sketches and script pages from the first issue of Darth Vader.

ComiXology also has a special sale on Star Wars comics, including the Star Wars Omnibus sale, which features Star Wars Omnibus: A Long Time Ago ... Volumes 1 through 5. These books collect the original Star Wars comic book series that launched in 1977 in select volumes. ComiXology has those on sale for $9.99 each until Dec. 20.

The Omnibus sale also includes The Star Wars, Star Wars — Boba Fett: Enemy of the Empire, Star Wars — Rebel Heist, Star Wars: The Bounty Hunters and Star Wars — Heir to the Empire.

In addition, fans can pick up copies of Star Wars #1, Darth Vader #1, Princess Leia #1, Kanan — The Last Padawan #1 and Lando Issue #1 for $0.99 each until Jan. 3, which is also the sale price of each of the 110 issues of the 1977-1986 Star Wars comic books on the site.

ComiXology also reminds readers that they can gift comics to other fans, too.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened in theaters today. So far, the film is set to break box office records, with reception to the J.J. Abrams-helmed film being mostly positive.

"Happy reading and may the Force be with you, always!" writes ComiXology.
