The Grand Theft Auto 5 walked away with the Game of The Year (GOTY) award at the Golden Joysticks 2013. Ken Levine, BioShocks auteur, walked away with the lifetime achievements award.
With a record breaking 10 million votes this year, the Golden Joysticks is the world's most credible and popular video game awards show compared to others such as Spike's annual video game awards. The Golden Joysticks is in its 31st year, and is managed by TechRadar's publisher Future.
Sony's hit The Last of Us managed to come away with 2 awards. The game found itself in an unlucky situation because had Grand Theft Auto 5 failed to launch in 2013, there is no doubt Naughty Dogs' zombie thriller would have walked away with the GOTY honors.
In a related development, Ken Levine became the first person to be honored with the lifetime achievement award in the history of the Golden Joysticks.
"We've revamped the categories to reflect the diversity of modern gaming and also added the inaugural Lifetime Achievement award, which has made this year's ceremony the most thrilling for us yet," said Andy Robinson, editor of Computer and Videogames.
With the next generation of consoles upon us, the 2014 Golden Joysticks should be quite exciting to watch as all the top games will vie for the top awards.
