Windows 10 now has a dedicated Netflix app, arriving as a universal app that should work across PCs, phones, and tablets alike.
Netflix is among the most popular video streaming apps of its kind and a Windows 10 app was highly-anticipated. Microsoft finally rolled out the new Netflix app, now enabling users to take full advantage of the latest Windows OS.
As previously mentioned, the new Netflix app is a universal app, but it's worth pointing out that it has yet to do its magic on phones as well. On tablets and PCs, however, it delivers a great experience, and Microsoft is working on extending the courtesy to phones "in the near future."
"Netflix has long been one of the top apps on Windows and we were pleased they were one of the first partners to release an app for Windows 10. Since the launch of Windows 10, Netflix has been one of the most downloaded and heavily used apps in our Windows Store," Microsoft boasts in a new announcement on the Windows blog.
"We have published a new version of our Windows 10 app to the Windows Store. This update features an updated user experience that is powered by an entirely new implementation on the Universal Windows Platform," Netflix announced on its part.
Netflix further touts a new user experience, with updated browsing that now allows users to scroll vertically through categories and horizontally through items within a category.
The Details view, meanwhile, now shows large, cinematic artwork for the respective movie or TV show. The Details view for a movie will also display content suggestions, while for a TB show it will include episode information.
Netflix users on Windows typically access the video streaming service across several different screen sizes, scaling factors and resolutions. With this in mind, the latest app version rocks a responsive layout for optimizing items' size and placement based on the scaling factor and the window size.
Moreover, the update also facilitates navigation via touch input or trackpad gestures.
For instance, if you're using a mouse to browse content, content within a row will be available for paginated scrolling via the buttons at the end of the row. When browsing using an integrated display or gestures on a trackpad, Netflix will enable inertial scrolling of rows via swipe gestures.
Many other neat features are in the mix, including a Live Tile for the Netflix app, Cortana for voice searches, and many more.
The new Netflix app for Windows 10 PCs and tablets is available now as a free download from the Windows Store.
