Verizon has begun pushing out the much needed December security update for Samsung's Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+.
The rollout of the firmware update comes hot on the heels of T-Mobile's move to send out the update for a few Samsung devices, including the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+.
"Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update for your device," says Verizon. "This software update has been tested to optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches."
Android 6.0 Marshmallow is not included the update, which is mostly a security patch that brings Samsung's bug fixes and Google's Android security patches up to Dec. 1.
"The current software update gives you the most up to date Android security patch on your device," added Verizon.
When the update is applied, the S6 edge+ will then have the LMY47X.G928VVRU2AOJ3 software version while the Galaxy Note 5 will then feature the version LMY47X.N920VVRU2OJ3.
Users should anticipate seeing such updates every month.
How To Update Your Device
Verizon is rolling out the security update over the air (OTA) in waves, which means you might not get the update for the next few days. Make sure to use Wi-Fi while downloading the update to avoid burning through your data.
Below is the step-by-step process to follow when updating:
1. Head over to Menu.
2. Check for the Settings.
3. Under the settings, select About Phone.
4. From there, click Software Updates.
5. Finally, choose Check for Updates.
It is worth noting that the update will eat six to 10 minutes of your time just to download. It will then take another six to 10 minutes to successfully install the firmware update.
