New 'Just Cause 3' Patch Coming This Week, Fixes Loading Times And Performance Issues

There's no denying that Just Cause 3 is one of the best open-world games of the year. Sure, it doesn't feature an incredibly deep story or well-developed characters, but it doesn't really need to - Just Cause 3 knows that it's a video game, and all of its resources have gone into making the game fun.

That being said, perhaps more resources should have gone into making the game run well: Just Cause 3 is passable on PCs, but if you're trying to play on consoles, the performance is pretty awful. It's not just a few dropped frames here and there - it's more like the game can barely keep itself going at times.

Thankfully, Avalanche Studios is on it: Just Cause 3 will be receiving a new patch sometime this week, and it's been built specifically with performance in mind. Patch 1.02 targets both frame rates and, most importantly, loading times - with any luck, players will finally be able to spend more time in-game and less time looking at screenshots and tool tips.

The full patch notes (via Square Enix) are as follows:

• Significantly improved loading times
• Optimizations to online stats
• General stability fixes
• Fixed an issue related to challenges, wherein vehicles sometimes disappeared when starting a challenge
• Fixed issues related to screen resizing and closing the game window before the game has fully started up [PC ONLY]

All in all, it sounds similar to Bloodborne's first update: when From Software's action-RPG first debuted, it took nearly a minute to fast-travel anywhere. Considering how much better Bloodborne is today (warping from place to place only takes a few seconds), there's a good chance that Just Cause 3 will also see some notable improvements.

While there's no specific release date given for the console version of the patch, Square Enix has promised that it should hit both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this week. For all you PC players, expect to see the patch hit this Friday.
