When it comes to attending a big movie premiere like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, one of the biggest questions one might ask is "what do I wear?"
There's always the choice of cosplay, although many theaters now restrict things like heavy robes, masks and lightsabers (basically, taking all the fun out of wearing a costume). But fans who want to celebrate their fandom in new and original ways, might want to consider something different, such as these do-it-yourself BB-8 heels.
What's even better is that the person who designed and created the heels actually put up instructions on how to make them at home. It turns out that the materials needed to make the shoes are easy to find and the how-to isn't that difficult.
These shoes are pretty incredible: not only are they designed to reflect BB-8's details and colors, but the adorable robot gets featured on the heel itself, complete in his spinning form.
"Get ready to roll out for the premiere of Star Wars with BB-8 heels," writes Instructables on its YouTube page. "These shoes take the Star Wars universe for a spin and are ready to help save the galaxy, or just look good doing it."
The heels start with a 2" white pump, something easily found at any discount or bargain shoe store (and probably even available at most thrift shops). The spinning wheel part of the heel is a 2.5-inch wooden ball: make sure the balls chosen are sturdy, since they'll also act as the heel part of the shoe.
And although paint might serve as a good way to get the stripes and other details on the top of the shoe, it is even easier to glue on colored craft foam cut into strips.
One of the final steps involves attaching the ball to the shoe in a way that allows it to spin.
Of course, these shoes probably won't offer a lot of comfort (gel or Memory Foam insoles are always a good idea) and walking in these might cause ankle injuries, but isn't that what fashion is all about anyway? And isn't it worth it to look this cool at the movies?
For those who want something more traditionally Star Wars (as in from the original trilogy), there's also an Instructable for R2-D2 heels.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters on Dec. 18.
