Roman Reigns Defies Vince McMahon's Odds To Win WWE World Heavyweight Title For First Time

Finally ... Roman's reign has begun.

Roman Reigns defied all odds on Monday Night Raw, getting past a grueling gauntlet laid down by Vince McMahon to defeat Sheamus and become WWE World Heavyweight champion for the very first time in his career.

After losing to Sheamus at the Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view event on Sunday night, Vince McMahon made his presence felt on Raw, berating Reigns for taking out his son-in-law Triple H the previous night, but also granting him a title rematch against Sheamus.

With that, the gauntlet was laid down to a very rough night for Roman. After Reigns connected with a Superman punch to Sheamus, McMahon pulled the ref out of the ring as his hand was coming down for the three count.

That paved the way for Rusev and Alberto Del Rio to attack Reigns, but it didn't go as planned. Roman nailed Rusev with a Superman punch and had one to spare for the WWE owner himself. Although Sheamus hit Reigns with the Brogue Kick, he only got a two count to his shock and horror. Reigns used the window of opportunity to spear Sheamus and get the pinfall to be crowned the WWE's new champ.

As quick as Roman started his reign, it remains to be seen if he will hold onto the belt through the Royal Rumble next month, having the chance to defend it at WrestleMania 32 live from Dallas.

What are the odds of that happening?

With Raw suffering through slumping ratings recently, whatever transpires in the storylines with Reigns, it's good to see Mr. McMahon back on WWE programming.
