Smartwatch maker Pebble announced on Thursday that its first-generation watches will receive its latest firmware update later this month.
Pebble previously released a new interface called Timeline as part of its Firmware 3.0 operating system with its Time smartwatch that launched in February.
The company said that its older devices, the Pebble Classic and Steel, would eventually get the user interface, and now, the wait is finally over.
"Bringing Pebble Time's 3.0 software to non-Time watches has been one of the most challenging projects we've tackled," the company writes in a blog post. "We're excited to share the results of that hard work with today's Android Beta and upcoming public release. For us, showing full support to the entire Pebble family with continuous updates is time well spent."
This means those with the Pebble Classic and Steel will have the timeline feature to see past notifications and upcoming events as well as unlimited apps, such as looking at the previous day's activity, while checking current steps taken and then seeing tomorrow's weather forecast to plan your workout accordingly. This makes the interface more organized without having to open multiple apps.
Timelime UI is now available as part of a beta test for Android users starting today, with the public release for both iOS and Android expected at the end of December. iOS users will not be able to take part in the beta program due to restrictions within the App Store.
The update will bring the devices up to firmware version 3.8.
Consumers interested in finally getting a smartwatch can purchase the Pebble Classic for the low price of $99.99. The company also recently launched the Pebble Time Round, which retails for $249.99.
Those looking to test out the new update can request to join the Timeline for Pebble Classic Beta Group.
