T-Mobile taunts competition with new, cheap family plan

Just another day in T-Mobile. CEO John Legere announced a new family plan promotion through a blog post, but not before blasting competition on their "best deal ever."

All the fuss is for T-Mobile's Simple Choice, a family plan that offers four lines for just $100 a month. Legere starts out with an anecdote about pulling up alongside a bus with an AT&T ad and laughing at what he saw "because their deal is no deal at all." He goes on say that next to the Simple Choice Family Plan, "AT&T's ‘Best-Ever Pricing for Families' is a joke." He's right.

If the best deal was just about offering the most affordable family plan, then clearly AT&T didn't win that one because Share Value costs $160 for four lines. And aside from the number of lines offered and included tethering service, Smart Choice and Share Value do not share anything in common. In fact, T-Mobile beats out AT&T on talk, text and data offering, 4G LTE service, data costs, international coverage and music.

Simple Choice provides unlimited talk, text and data and no overages on data. Unlimited text and data are also offered for more than 120 countries and destinations across the globe at no extra charge, alongside unlimited music streaming from top services. For 4G LTE, 10 GB of data will be shared by the four lines but each line will be given a 2.5GB allotment until 2016!

"It infuriates me that they're selling this to hardworking families who could use that money for more important things. And they have the nerve to call it "Best-Ever Pricing." I just couldn't stand by without speaking up and calling them on their BS," writes Legere.

"Yes, AT&T's ‘Best-Ever' ploy is terrible, but Big Red and the Framily aren't any better," he adds.

Verizon MORE Everything and Sprint Family both cost $160 for starters, just like AT&T's Share Value. Four lines are covered by these family plans as well but offer only unlimited talk and text and impose additional charges for international connections. Music streaming also don't come cheap as data rates apply while overages are incurred after data limits have been met.

T-Mobile's Simple Choice Family Plan is available starting July 30 until the end of September.
