SAG Awards Nominees Announced: Who Got In, Who Got Snubbed

Awards season is here and "The 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards" lit the fuse of excitement when it released the complete roster of nominees on Dec. 9 for its Awards night on Jan. 30, 2016, showcasing surprising nods and buzz-worthy snubs.

Let's have a run-down of the entire list of nominees and find out if you agree with the nominating panels' choices.

Leading Role

Bryan Cranston, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Fassbender and Eddie Redmayne were nominated for their performance in their respective films and we can't deny that these five men gave their best effort to give justice to their roles. What is unexpected is that, for critically acclaimed films, neither Matt Damon who played the stranded astronaut, Mark Watney, in "The Martian" nor Will Smith whose performance as Dr. Bennet Omalu in "Concussion" was praised, were recognized.

The happy surprise in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role roster was comedienne Sarah Silverman's inclusion for her dramatic performance in "I Smile Back." She was nominated along with Cate Blanchett, Brie Larson, Dame Helen Mirren and the youngest among them, Saoirse Ronan. Noticeably absent in the nominations roster is Jennifer Lawrence who was predicted to earn a nod as the titular character of "Joy."

Supporting Role

Dame Helen Mirren gets a second nod, this time for her role as Hedda Hopper in "Trumbo." Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams, Alicia Vikander and Kate Winslet join her as supporting actress nominees.

The supporting actor nominations went to Christian Bale, Idris Elba, Mark Rylance, Michael Shannon and Jacob Tremblay.

Sadly, only Rachel McAdams received an individual recognition for her performance in "Spotlight" despite the equally remarkable performances of her male co-stars.

Television Ensemble

The usual nominees are lined up for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama series. Nominees are the casts of "Downton Abbey," "Game of Thrones," "Homeland," "House of Cards," and "Mad Men."

The comedy series roster welcomes two first-time nominees with "Key & Peele" and "Transparent." Returning nominees include "Modern Family," "The Big Bang Theory," "Orange is the New Black" and "Veep"
