If it's one thing we know about Girl Scouts, it's that these budding entrepreneurs are excellent at selling Thin Mints and Samoas in innovative ways. The latest commerce push? The nonprofit youth organization's newly launched update for its Digital Cookie app, Digital Cookie 2.0.
The seller app is now more streamlined for mobile use, and has a customizable site for web users. It also can be used as an educational tool for badge-wielding members of the organization.
In addition to boosting purchasing power, Girl Scouts CEO Anna Maria Chávez asserts that the app serves a dual role: helping Scouts understand how technology can be integrated with other fields in myriad ways, all the while boosting an entrepreneurial spirit.
"Digital Cookie marks a strategic turning point in updating the business and financial literacy skills girls learn—and the way they learn them—to align with our digital world," said Chávez.
"Last year, nearly 160,000 Girl Scouts participated in Digital Cookie," she added. "We listened to their feedback and made changes that both addressed what the girls said they wanted, and expanded what they could learn."
The app falls in line with the organization's effort to introduce STEM-oriented activities to their members and encourage participation and enthusiasm in or for STEM-related (science, technology, engineering and math) fields.
