This gadget doesn't need a darkroom to produce top-notch photos: a German photographer named Lukas Fritz has developed an automatic film processor that develops both black and white and color 35 mm film.
Called the Filmomat, the device contains a number of compartments that correlate with each chemical used in the photo-development process, namely photographic developer, chemical fixer and a chemical stopper, as well as additional substances used for film and slides. The Filmomat also contains a six-liter water tank for photo wash.
The microwave-sized contraption can also remember up to 50 different development processes — which is a lot of storage room, considering the 10-plus steps each respective process harbors. To put the Filmomat to work, the only thing required of the user-and-photographer in question is for him or her to fill up each tank with the correct aligning chemical, turn the push dial to the correct OLED display and watch the gadget go to work.
As of now, Fritz has no plans to put the film processor into mass-production via a crowdfunding campaign, but instead put together a few select machines for interested parties; the Filmomat itself will be priced at roughly $2,200 USD.
