Naughty Dog Says ‘Uncharted 4’ Will Be Last In Its Series Because It’s ‘Hard To Make’

Uncharted 4 developer Naughty Dog has admitted that the Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is going to be the final game in the series as it confessed that these games are tricky to develop.

Robert Cogburn, the lead game designer, disclosed a number of grounds as to why the latest title is Naughty Dog's last Uncharted game.

"This will be our fourth Uncharted game," said Cogburn. "These games are hard to make."

He said that the studio has been struggling in considering how it is going to make the universe even greater.

Cogburn also pointed out that it has been a challenge for the team to answer similar questions time and again. Alongside the challenge of how to make the game’s narrative more exhilarating, he explained that it has become tiresome for the team to think of how to level up the combat experience and what interesting puzzles to include to entice the gamers.

Worn-out of answering the same queries about the same storyline, the team desires to get on fresh ideas and start incorporating these in a brand new series.

In June, Uncharted 4's creative director Neil Druckmann said that the studio was already working on bringing closure to the journey of Nathan Drake. The first three games set the tone of Uncharted quite distinctly. But now, the developer wants to make sure that as series come to an end, the focus will be on the relationships that were formed and not about the treasures.

He added that everything the studio was doing during the time was constructed toward putting an end to Drake's "very long journey."

To date, the studio has already managed to sell more than 21 million copies. Interestingly, a movie is currently in the works about Uncharted.

Uncharted 4 will be released in March 2016 for PlayStation 4. However, people who purchased The Nathan Drake Collection are given the opportunity to get the first dibs on the game's multiplayer beta.

In the meantime, Josh Scherr, the lead writer of Uncharted 4, said that it is hard to imagine the series to move forward without Nathan Drake as the lead role. Arne Meyer, the community strategist of Naughty Dog, also hinted last month that the studio is set to work on “at least” one more game for the latest console generation.
